About the middle of last year, I started exploring the “large” fixed blade theme. I’ve always had an interest in really big fixed blades… but have found them to be a little impractical personally. (When trying to fill the “one knife with me” role… but I still loved them if only for the shock and awe of it all) . Still, I figured there had to be a good balance between traditional bowie knife, meets machete, meets hard use combat blade designs. Instead of just rolling everything into one… I’ve made two large bladed models. The Hand of God …or H.O.G. …. and the Legion.

The Hand of God is an enormous bowie knife design with an overall length of 17″ and an actual cutting edge length of 10.5″. Although I have made a few from 1/4″ (.205″) thick S30V, I’m primarily using .310″ A2 high carbon steel for it’s shock and impact durability. The finished knife weighs just under 2lbs… so it really generates some force when chopping. In this particular design, I’ve also carried over the skull crusher pommel and have incorporated an exaggerated drop guard up front. As with some of my other knife models, the Hand of God also has it’s own logo… in this case, my son’s hand print is electro etched into the blade. Pricing on the H.O.G. runs $600 – $650 depending on steel chosen and sheathing options.

The Legion is my answer to a hard use combat fixed blade. It shares the same general handle shape and exaggerated guard that the HOG has, but no skull crusher on this model (less to snag on gear)… and of course the blade shape is different, and shorter. This is a modified bayonet sort of design, with a reinforced swedged tip. For this model I’m using 1/4″ S30V which saves some weight over the above mentioned A2, also knowing that with the shorter and lighter blade… impact shock shouldn’t be as much of an issue. Base price on the Legion is $550 … specs listed below.

Specs:
14″ OAL
9″ tip to grip face
8″ actual cutting ege
.250″ (1/4″) thick S30V hollow ground and heat treated by BOS
weight is 1lb 10oz with sheath

Just a quick note about the ordering process…

I am still taking orders at this time, but with the ever increasing support of a great customer base… my productions times are stretching up to 12 months for some models. Many of my fixed blade designs I’m still able to turn around in about half that time, but the popularity of the folding knives as well as the complexity of those builds is keeping me ever busy. Can’t express how thankful I am for the continued support, truly!

As a result, I probably won’t have anything available through the store on my website any time soon….with the exception of hats, possibly shirts and other marketing swag. (I’ve had many requests to do another run of the AR dust covers, and that is something I’d like to get done shortly)

If you’ve been on the fence about getting an order in, please don’t hesitate. I’m still taking custom orders without requirements of a deposit or prepayment for 2011. Looking forward to a great year! God Speed – Dave 1/8/11

FOLDERS! – The HUNTED is finally here – My line of full custom folding knives. Designed as a folding version of the Blackthorn fixed blade. This is a Titanium framelock design, 8.5″ OAL with a 4″ blade of hollow ground S30V. It can be had in all Titanium which can be sculpted and anodized, or in a Titanium and G10 variation. My folders will all be wearing the hunted logo as you see pictured. I am currently also working on a tanto variation. The deep belly drop point model is called The Samaritan.

In keeping with my overall design elements, these folders keep the offset blade to handle orientation and are purpose built for hard everyday use, whether that may simply be opening your mail… or skinning and caping a trophy buck. Each knife utilizes hardened stainless steel hardware to minimize corrosion. I elected to use an open backed “standoff” design instead of a solid backspacer to make it easier to clean out after it’s been immeresed in blood, hair, and animal fat. Dual thumbstuds also allow ease of opening whether you use your right or left hand.
